What is the One-Stop?

The One-Stop is part of a national initiative to combine employment, education and training services into a coherent network of resources at the local, state and national level. The system links job seekers with access to employment and training resources and employers to a variety of qualified applicants.


What types of services does the One-Stop offer?

The One-Stop offers comprehensive employment resources and services specially customized to both job seekers and employers. Services include job search and placement assistance career counseling; skills workshops; computer and Internet access; online job postings; use of office equipment; English language classes; specialized programs for seniors and disabled employees; recruiting qualified employees for employers; and facilities for job fairs and recruiting events.


Is there a fee for the One-Stop services?

There is no charge for using the One-Stop's core services and facilities.


Are there eligibility requirements for using One-Stop services?

Services are available to adults age 18 and over, as well as youth between the ages of 14 and 21.


How do I begin using services at the One-Stop Career Centers?

Visit any of our three One Stop Centers and meet with our staff about your job search/employee needs. For a complete understanding of our comprehensive programs and services, we recommend attending an Orientation Session. To register, contact the Silicon Valley Workforce Investment Network at (408) 928-1300.


How many One-Stop Career Centers are in the area?

There are three One-Stop Centers: San Jose Campbell and Gilroy.


How many One-Stop Career Centers are there in California?

There are more than 400 One-Stop centers in California.


How are the One-Stop Career Centers funded?

Funding is derived primarily from the U.S. Department of Labor. Other sources include state and federal grants and private industry.


What is the Workforce Investment Act?

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) was passed by Congress in 1998 and superseded the Job Training Partnership Act. The WIA mandates that a comprehensive range of workforce development activities be made available through statewide and local organizations that benefit job seekers, laid off workers, youth, incumbent workers, new entrants to the workforce, veterans, persons with disabilities, and employers. One-Stop Career Centers were developed in response to the WIA.


What is work2future?

work2future is a comprehensive regional resource for employers, workers and job seekers. work2future oversees operations of the One-Stop Career Centers in San Jose, Campbell and Gilroy and allocates their funding. work2future has formed partnerships with numerous public and private institutions, businesses and city governments in Silicon Valley, creating a network of relationships that can be tapped into to assist local businesses and job seekers.


Who oversees work2future?

work2future is guided by a 43-member board of directors who represent both the public and private sector.
