What's Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA)
is a comprehensive reform legislation that comprises more than 400
One-Stop Career Centers in the United States. WIA was passed by
Congress in 1998, went into effect in July 1, 2000, superseded the Job
Training Partnership Act (JTPA)
and amended the Wagner-Peyser.
WIA mandates that a multitude of workforce-related programs be made
available through local One-Stop
Centers,
which provide a full range of information and services to help workers
and job seekers access the tools they need to manage their careers and
the employers to find the skilled workers they are looking for.
Partner Agencies
Partners play a key role in the sponsorship
and/or delivery of workforce development related services. One-Stop
Centers a cooperative effort between many state and local agencies,
businesses and organizations represent a clearinghouse of local, state
and federal employment assistance programs, in one centralized
location.
